Please note that E-Verify Service is currently unavailable. According to E-Verify’s website:
E-Verify is not available due to a lapse in Department of Homeland Security appropriations and due to a lapse in statutory authority for the E-Verify program. While E-Verify is unavailable, employers cannot access their E-Verify accounts. Customer support services are also unavailable.
Employers must continue to complete and retain Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, within the required time for every person hired to work for pay in the United States.

How Should VCCS College HR Offices Respond?
- I-9 Sections 1 and 2 should continue to be completed and saved in Avature for all onboarding employees. An E-Verify error notification will be sent from Avature, which does not require further action at this time. When E-Verify resumes operations, the SSC will resubmit any cases that remain outstanding due to the shutdown.
- To export or download copies of I-9 forms completed during this period for compliance purposes, please reach out to your H2R Technician.
- This memo can be used to document any delays in processing.
- The SSC Hire to Retire team will continue to monitor the E-Verify website for updates and will provide guidance on how to process any current outstanding I-9 cases in Avature when appropriate.
